Portrait Client Questions

How do I book a session?

Call or email me and we’ll arrange a time that works for you and your family.

What should we wear?

I like to suggest to clients that they wear complementary clothes, but not matching. I also love color, so picking a few colors to weave into your family’s outfits is a nice way to complement each other. I think solid colors are a good idea, but bringing in some fun and funky patterns, especially with accessories, can really make your images pop.

Consider where you plan to display the images in your home. If you want to hang a large canvas portrait in your living room, choosing clothing to compliment your existing design decisions is probably a way to go.

Modern retouching technology works wonders, but it does cost you more to have logos, stains and wrinkles removed from clothing, so plan accordingly.

Hair

Men should let a hair cut grow out for at least a week before your session. This will allow for tan lines to disappear. Also, take the time to get a close shave. Ladies, if you plan on coloring your hair or getting a new style, allow yourself at least a week to get used to the style.

Make-up

Bring llip balm or lip gloss to keep your lips moist and do apply make-up before your session. You might even consider treating yourself to a professional make-up application prior to your shoot. We recommend wearing a touch more make-up than you would wear on an average day. If you don’t typically wear make-up, a well-matched foundation, mascara and lip gloss are all things that will take your session up a notch. You nails will also show up in your photos, so you will want to make sure those look good too!

Anything else?

The best thing you can do to have great family images is to try to keep your family as happy as possible as you prepare for and arrive at your session. I’m a mother, so I know this can be challenging. When you schedule a time and when you prepare for your session, it helps to make sure that your family is well rested and well fed. After that, just be your happy selves. I can take care of coaxing your children into giggles. Your job will be to have fun and enjoy your family, so I can capture all the love you have for each other!

When will we see our photos?

Your images will be posted to an online proof gallery within two weeks of your session. Some product orders can take longer. Please inquire if you are on a strict deadline.

Payment

All payments are due in full at the time of service/order. Cash, check, Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

Copyrights

What does “copyright protected” mean?, Why can’t I scan my pictures from a professional?, and Why won’t you just give me the images on a CD?

In 1976 the federal government passed a law making it illegal to copy and scan materials protected by copyright, including professional photography. Our studio invests heavily in training, education and equipment to provide you with the highest quality photography possible. Poppy Seed Photography has reserved the copyright on each portrait we create. It is illegal to scan, reproduce, copy, or screen capture any of our proofs, portraits, and online viewing proofs. Please do not steal from us. Not only is it illegal, it’s just not nice. Any reproduction of our images without written copyright release is considered a federal offense. If you want prints or digital copies of your images they are available for purchase.
