Why I Love Photography

Life is beautiful. People are beautiful. When you happen to catch people on momentous days, such as their wedding day, that beauty is magnified, and overwhelming. I love being with people on their most special days. The day can be filled with raw emotion: excitement, love, and nervousness. I enjoy being there to witness and record the beautiful and fleeting moments of the day. I enjoy the details, the sweet interactions between family members, and the calm that comes when the bride and groom first see each other.

As for my portrait photography, much of the above applies. I am allowed to witness the intimacy and inner workings of families. I find it an incredible honor.  I especially love seeing the same families from one year to the next and am  honored to provide a beautiful documentation of a family as they grow and change.  From family portraits, newborn sessions and birthday parties, capturing the love and energy from families is certainly one of my favorite aspects of my job.

About Lisa

With over ten years experience shooting weddings in the Twin Cities area, Lisa records the narrative of her clients’ wedding day  through timeless images filled  with beauty and exuberance.  She offers a style that infuses a photojournalist aesthetic with elegant and beautiful portrait photography.

Born into a military family, Lisa grew up traveling around the world including North Carolina, Okinawa, Japan, Minneapolis, and New Mexico. Her family ultimately settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico, tucked into the Chihuahuan desert. Spending her formative years in a picturesque location inspired her to pursue her passion for art. Lisa received her first camera at 16 from her father, who is also an artist. Lisa’s photography journey began in her high school dark room, waking up early to capture the beauty of the desert  and developing skills as a video editor for the city’s public television station.

After high school, Lisa went on to study liberal arts and philosophy at St. John’s college which is set in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  The experience there set her up for a lifelong journey of learning, inquiry, and artistic expression.

Wanderlust took hold of Lisa after college and she moved to Minneapolis, Minn. to continue her life’s adventure.  She had no idea at the time that it would ultimately become her home.  She fell in love with a childhood friend, got married, and put down roots in Minnesota.

When Lisa and her  husband got married, they put photography at the top of our priorities. They knew the images from the day would last much longer than the shoes she wore or the centerpieces on their reception tables. Her husband remarked that he wanted photographs his grandchildren could look back on and appreciate. She agreed wholeheartedly. She loved the energy of the wedding day and fell in love with the images she received.  She wanted to provide this gift to others.  Following her own wedding, she began working with the studio who photographed her wedding and worked as an assistant for a year before being asked to work as an associate photographer.

Lisa is inspired by the connection she makes with her clients, and the opportunity to capture the sparkle in in their eyes, a small laugh, or a funny expression. She loves to connect with her clients, put them at ease, have fun, and catch the moments between the poses. Being a mother to two young children also gives me the ability to connect and work with clients of all ages.

After a few years, of gaining experience, Lisa branched out on her own after a few years to start Poppy Seed Photography. The name came from her desire to represent her business with something that was beautiful, whimsical and unique.

The product she delivers to her clients are a culmination of her life experiences. She is an incredibly hard worker who is passionate about her craft and delivers only the best to her clients, from awesome customer service to beautiful images and albums.  From your initial consultation, to the delivery of your images and album, you can expect Lisa will communicate with you about your vision of your day and goals.  She pays attention to the beautiful details you’ve added to make your wedding unique and captures them.  With over a decade of experience, Lisa has honed an eye for detail that allows her to quickly capture unique images on your wedding day so you can enjoy your most special day.  Her goal is to deliver to you, your family’s first, and most precious heirloom, an archival quality wedding album.

Lisa’s casual style, attention to detail, and willingness to experiment allows her to capture moments that are artistic and unique to each of her clients.

Lisa lives with her family in Lakeville, Minn. She loves to read, create art, see live music and spend time with friends and family.
