Good to Meet You

My photography is a culmination of my life experiences. I'm a crazy hard worker and I'm passionate about delivering only the best to my clients.  My clients generally end up being friends.  Photography is a very personal service and I enjoy getting to knot my clients and making them feel awesome in front of the camera.

From your initial consultation, to the delivery of your images and album, you can expect that I will communicate with you about your vision of your photo shoot. With over a decade of experience, I've honed an eye for detail that allows me to quickly capture unique images so the entire process is fun and enjoyable.

My casual style, attention to detail, and willingness to experiment allows me to capture moments that are artistic and unique to each of my clients.

I live with my husband and two children in Lakeville, Minn. I love to read, create art, see live music and spend time with friends and family.

The Whole Story

With over ten years experience shooting weddings in the Twin Cities area, I record the narrative of my clients wedding day through timeless images filled with beauty and exuberance. I offer a style that infuses a photojournalist aesthetic with elegant and beautiful portrait photography.

Often, my wedding couples become my family clients as they grow as a family.  I love seeing my families every year to document as they grow and change.  My child clients come to know me as a friend and we look forward to having fun together every year.  As a mother I know the various developmental stages of kids and can quickly adapt what I'm doing to best accomodate the child where she/he is at.  I am warm, kind, and a little bit silly.  This allows me to capture my clients' most genuine expressions and personalities.

I've traveled around the world a lot.  My dad was a Marine and so I grew up moving  around the world including North Carolina, Okinawa, Japan, Minneapolis, and New Mexico. My family ultimately settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico, tucked into the Chihuahuan desert. I spent my high school years exploring different mediums of art.  My dad gave me my first SLR Nikon camer when I was sixteen. My photography journey began my high school's dark room. I had many adventures waking up early to capture the beauty of the desert and developing skills as a video editor for the city’s public television station.

After high school, I studied study liberal arts at St. John's college, which is set in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The experience there set me up for a lifelong journey of learning, inquiry, and artistic expression.

Wanderlust took hold of me after college and I moved to Minneapolis, Minn. to continue my adventure. I had no idea at the time that it would ultimately become my home. I fell in love with a childhood friend, got married, and put down roots in Minnesota. When we got married, they put photography at the top of our priorities. We knew the images from the day would last much longer than the shoes I wore or the centerpieces on our reception tables. My husband remarked that he wanted photographs our grandchildren could look back on and appreciate. I agreed wholeheartedly. I loved the energy of the wedding day and fell in love with the images we received. I wanted to provide that gift to others. Following our wedding, I began working with the studio who photographed our wedding and worked as an assistant for a year before I was asked to work as an associate photographer.

After a few years, Lisa branched out on her own to start Poppy Seed Photography. The name came from her desire to represent her business with something that was beautiful, whimsical and unique and so began Poppy Seed Photography.

I am inspired by the connections I make with my clients, and the opportunity to capture the sparkle in in their eyes, a small laugh, or a funny expression. I enjoy making my clients feel comfortable, help them have fun, and catch the moments between the poses. Being a mother to two young children also gives me the ability to connect and work with clients of all ages.
